1. How long have you been working on Excalibur?

Ken Turner: We have been in production on Excalibur for just on 10 months. Prior to this we were working on our core technologies (Auran Jet) which has allowed us to get the game to a playable state in a very short period.

2. What first inspired you to make Excalibur?

Ken Turner: The ideas and inspiration for Excalibur have been manifesting in the team for quite some time. An opportunity arose to realize these ideas and Excalibur was born. Additionally, we believed it would be fun! (and marketable).

3. Have Excalibur a Multiplayer-Modus?

Ken Turner: Most certainly! Excalibur will feature a number of competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes. Our QA department has recently been testing one of our multiplayer game types, with outstanding success.

4. Will a map editor be delivered with the retail version, will you be supplying an editor with Excalibur to create maps?

Ken Turner: Our plan is to supply the gaming community with the necessary tools to create new maps and scenarios. Currently we are focused on providing the tool-set functionality for internal use. Whether the editor ships with, before or after the game will depend on how well they mature.

5. What are the programmers working at right now (Engine, Video, Controllers, Gameplay etc…)?

Ken Turner: A primary focus of the programming team at the moment is the upgrading and extending of some of our 3D rendering technologies. They are also busy coding the gameplay systems and prototyping a few special things that we’d like to try.

6. What for an Engine use Excalibur?

Ken Turner: Excalbur is built upon the Auran Jet game engine. The Beta-2 version is currently available on www.auranjet.com, although we are using a more recent version.

7. What elements will the story include (What for Elements are in the Story?)

Ken Turner: The Excalibur story is set some time after the death of King Arthur. Players will encounter some of the characters from the original legend, along with some new ones.

8. Which weapons will the game include? ( What weapons are in Excalibur? )

Ken Turner: The weapons list includes a spectrum of death-dealing-devices from the melee, range and magical combat disciplines. Some of the hybrid weapons are shaping up to be pretty cool.

9. Has Excalibur one or more maps?

Ken Turner: The single player game is a seemingly continuous journey across 3 visually diverse realms. Each of the areas within the single player game are cached as needed, so that the only loading screen you will see is the one at the beginning. There will be a number of self-contained maps for the multiplayer game, each set in of the 3 realms.

10. What has to do the player in Excalibur?

Ken Turner: In the single player game, the player must find Excalibur and wield it against the vile creatures of the 3 realms. In doing so, the player hopes to stop the Raven Goddess of War from releasing a great evil into the kingdom of Albion.

11. And where are the Player (Character)?

Ken Turner: The player will journey throughout the 3 realms (Albion, Poisoned Camelot and Avalon). Each of these realms will feature indoor, outdoor and underground scenes inhabited by rabid foes.

12. When will a video of Excalibur be available?

Ken Turner: We will be increasing our market presence over the coming months so keep watching the website for the latest news. www.excalibur-thegame.com

13. Can you compare Excalibure with Rune or Ultima?

Ken Turner: I’ve had great fun playing ‘Rune’ and the ‘Ultima’ series of games. At its heart, Excalibur is an action game so it compares more closely with ‘Rune’, ‘Blade of Darkness’ and ‘Die by the Sword’ than to role playing games. We hope to mark out new territory with some of the gameplay innovations we have planned for Excalibur, which give the ‘medieval third-person action/adventure’ genre an injection of depth without inhibiting the game flow.

14. Have you got another project’s?

Ken Turner: Auran is currently also well into production on Trainz (www.virtualtrainz.com), a model railroad game and Harn(www.harn.com), a computer-aided visualization tool for pen and paper role playing enthusiasts. Both of these products use the Auran Jet technologies as their foundation.

15. How long we must wait until Excalibur release?

Ken Turner: Excalibur is scheduled for release in 2002.

16. Do you think that there release later an Add-On for Excalibur?

Ken Turner: I’m sure that with the project’s success, we’ll be keen to provide gamers with the opportunity to continue their adventures in an Excalibur add-on.

Here I would like particularly to thank you Auran and Racheal Nixon and Ken Turner for the interview. I further much success to Auran and expect strained Excalibur.
